1.1: “Come, Let Us Adore Him”

Wednesday, January 1

“So, if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see everything has become new!”     2 Corinthians 5:17

I have found that for many of us who have called Jesus Lord for many years, we tend to get used to the reality of the Spirit dwelling within us. It dawned on me in seminary that something radical happens to us when we become followers of Jesus. We don’t just intellectually acknowledge his Lordship and our need for a Savior, we are made new! Not every part of us is brand new of course, but the foundation is brand new! We are beginning the process of becoming who we are declared to be in Christ. The changes on the heart level are so profound that we might not even notice them.

Do you love God? Do you have hope for the future? Are you drawn to people just because you care about them? The Bible tells us these are deep works of the Spirit in us and are not natural to the soil of our souls in the fallen state. These are the first fruits of what Jesus means when he says “Behold, I am making all things new.” (Rev. 21:5)

Prayer:

Lord God, thank you for making me new when I was regenerated by your Spirit, and thank you for continuing this work in me each day. Help us to believe this New Years Day that, just like the calendar year, we have been made new and are continually being renewed!
