1.2: “Come, Let Us Adore Him”

Thursday, January 2

“…a little child shall lead them”     Isaiah 11:6b

In the book of Micah, King Nebuchadnezzar was about to conquer Jerusalem and take the Jewish people hostage.  The last king of Jerusalem in David’s line was killed in this battle.  But Micah prophesied that a new king from David’s line would be born in a little town in Judah and this king would be the long-awaited Messiah who would establish his Kingdom.

This baby, this heir, was born twenty-eight generations after King David.  (Matthew 1:17).

The Jewish priests and teachers were aware of this prophecy and they and the people were  expecting a military and political leader to emerge.

Instead, as further explained by Isaiah, [this baby] “…will delight in obeying the Lord.  He will never judge by appearance, false evidence, or hearsay.  He will defend the poor and the exploited.  He will rule against the wicked and destroy them with the breath of his mouth.  He will clothe them in fairness and truth.” Isaiah 11:3-5.

These are words for us to espouse–to live and grow by.  To follow Jesus’ teachings.

Prayer:

Thank you, God, for the miracle of the baby Jesus.  Continue to inspire us to follow the teachings of our Lord Jesus.  Amen.
