12.16: “Come, Let Us Adore Him”
Monday, December 16
“The government shall be on his shoulders; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty One, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6b*
The prophet is speaking for the people of that time who longed for a worldly king that would rule with divine authority, a godly king in the lineage of David who would rule forever with justice and mercy. They did not know that the True Messiah would transcend worldly power by giving Himself over to God’s authority, which has no beginning and no end and which, unlike worldly kingdoms–however benevolent—will never fail. Jesus indeed did carry the government on His shoulders when He carried the cross to Golgotha, emptying Himself of His own will in service of God’s inscrutable purpose.
Prayer:
We pray that we all can be in contact with that vision, understand better what Jesus is pointing at; we pray to see the difference, when nothing is required of us but to know Love’s unfailing embrace. We pray to understand what’s going on right now; we see the clashing of worldly powers; we look for God in the chaos. We pray for all to know the peace of God, to live in the reality of God that passes all understanding.
