12.27: “Come, Let Us Adore Him”

Friday, December 27

“He tends His flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.”     Isaiah 40:11*

What a tender, beautiful and comforting passage this is!  The verses in Isaiah 40 that lead up to and follow these few lines, seem to emphasize God’s power and His glory, as Creator and Sovereign Lord.  But, inserted in the middle of the chapter, is the clear reminder that our Heavenly Father loves us and protects us, as a shepherd tends his sheep.

Our Father especially has a heart for those who are vulnerable, like lambs.  Clearly “lambs” is a reference to children, and there was a point in my life, as a single mother of young children, when this particular verse stood out so vividly to me that I knew God had led me to it.  But I would propose that “lambs” also refers to those who are lost, or scared or grieving. How wonderful to think that He carries us “close to His heart” during such times!

Finally, God’s promise of loving guidance for the saints who care for those who are vulnerable wraps up the passage.

Prayer:

Majestic Father, we praise You in all Your glory and we thank You for bending down to provide us with constant love and care.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
