Joel 2: 12-14
“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.” Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and He relents from sending calamity.
1 Peter 5:6
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.
It may be snowy and frigid outside, but Ash Wednesday (the start of Lent) is just days away. Christians are called to enter into a time of sorrow and repentance, that we might turn away from sin and turn towards God. A time of sacrifice, that we might remember Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for us. In a way this season of faith is depressing, yet I praise God for the beautiful progression of spiritual as well as actual seasons. We are given a time for being newly convicted of each important aspect of our faith.
Thank you, Lord, for instructing us, challenging us, humbling us, forgiving us, and loving us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
