JOY IN THE JOURNEY! Advent 2020 Devotional 13
December 13, 2020
Luke 2:1-5
WAITING. ANTICIPATING. WONDERING. TRUSTING.
Mary, like all expectant Mothers was awaiting the birth of her child. He was announced by angels and conceived by her, a young virgin. She trusted what had been told to her.
Now there was the long journey to Bethlehem on the back of a donkey to be registered per Caesar Augustus’s decree. So close to time for birth, this had to be a very uncomfortable ride.
And now the time had come to give birth and there was no place to stay at the inn. The baby was coming soon. They had to find shelter. That shelter would be in a humble stable. Mary gave birth to our savior, Jesus. She wrapped him up and laid him in a manger for a bed.
Think about it. The miracle and joy of a new birth in such a humble beginning. Mary and Joseph both trusted what they had been told and availed themselves to the will of God.
Prayer
Father God, as we contemplate the miraculous birth that we celebrate as Christmas, help us to know and love Jesus as our personal savior and to always trust in you. Amen.
