Rooted in Love
“Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
Ephesians 3:17
February is the month of celebrating the ones we love by sending Valentines and gifts of flowers and heart shaped boxes of sweets. It’s a Hallmark holiday for sure, but it’s also a reminder of the importance of knowing that someone cares for us. Relationships that are characterized by authentic, unconditional love are truly “life-giving.” This kind of love assures us that we are worthy and perfect just as we are, and that makes us strong against the voices in the world that would say otherwise. Paul’s encouraging words to the church at Ephesus speak about growing strong because of being rooted in God’s love – a love that is “too great to understand fully” but makes us “complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Eph. 3:19) When we know with certainty that we are that precious to God – chosen and loved even before we drew breath – then we are able to recognize the preciousness of others and their unique places in God’s heart. “Dear Friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other.” (I John 4:11)
Prayer: Lord, I ask that Your love may flow through me into the lives of other people. This makes Your love in me complete.
Amen
