Complaint and Hope

“How long, Lord, must I call for help,
    but you do not listen?
Or cry out to you, “Violence!”
    but you do not save?
Why do you make me look at injustice?
    Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?
Destruction and violence are before me;
    there is strife, and conflict abounds.
Therefore the law is paralyzed,
    and justice never prevails.
The wicked hem in the righteous,
    so that justice is perverted.”

The people of Ukraine must be chanting these verses.

The people of Buffalo must be chanting these verses.

The people of Geneva Presbyterian Church must be chanting these verses.

 

The forces of evil seem prevalent in this world, as they have for millennia.  We must not condone evil.  We must not ignore the actions of evil that cause human suffering.  We are given the means and the opportunity to support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine, and to our credit have done so.  We must not support those who would pervert the laws that delineate order and justice in our land.  We have done good, but there is much more good to BE done.

“The Lord works in mysterious ways.”  We are one of those ways they, the Lord, works, let us participate to the fullest in that responsibility.

It is difficult to remain optimistic in these strange and challenging times, (but)…

 

“But I trust in your unfailing love;
