Present in God’s Presence
“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” Matthew 6:34 (The Message)
Why is it so hard to live in the present moment? My mind is always such a busy time traveler, worrying about what might happen tomorrow or rehashing events from the past that can’t be altered. And the more I try to stop these ineffective, counterproductive thoughts, the tighter their grip becomes. The good news is that I can break free by noticing the things God is doing right now in my life. When I remember that God is not limited by time and space and is with me always and everywhere, I can face the future confidently knowing that God is already there. Each new day is a glorious gift that comes with God’s invitation to live it fully without being distracted by future concerns or past regrets. When I can keep my focus on being present in God’s Presence, I am free to live the joyful, abundant life that blesses not only me but those around me.
Prayer: Ever present God, I don’t want to get worked up over past events or worries about tomorrow. Keep me aware of your constant loving Presence that draws my wandering thoughts back to you. Amen.
