TIME
One of my favorite Bible verses is Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, written by King Solomon.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.”
The Bible contains many references to time and the management of our time here on earth. Ephesians 5:15-17 says “So then, be careful how you live. Do not be unwise, but wise making the best use of your time because times are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”
Time itself is a lengthy subject. It is something that we never seem to have enough of, and yet, everything takes time, no matter what. We often drop what we are doing so that we can go do something else, we multi-task so that we can save a little time here and there. What a concept … if we save a little time here and there, we’ll have some extra time to do something else. Somehow that makes sense and we’re able to make time for something that we wouldn’t have had time for before. Remember, no matter how much time we save, each day comes equipped with 24 hours or 1440 minutes, no more, no less.
In my life, I have amassed 657,000 hours or 39,420,000 minutes. I’m not sure of how much time I have saved, and I’m not sure how important that is to God, but what I am sure of is that God has given me 24 hours each day to try to do the best that I can. And while He may not be concerned about how much time I save; He most certainly is concerned about how I use the time He has provided.
There is a time for everything and everything has it’s time. We really can’t save time. We can’t put it on a shelf or in a bottle, we can’t save it for later. The time God has provided is here now, use it wisely.
My Prayer – Dear God, Thank You for this day. I pray that I make the best of each moment You have provided. Let me always remember that my life’s time is a gift from You, and that each day I allow time for Your direction through prayer. Help me to set daily goals and then let me put my trust in the Holy Spirit to be my guide. Give me courage to follow You in all that I do and use me to show Your love to others. Amen
