Hurry Up and Wait!

Last week I was driving home from Circleville, Ohio. I had spent six hours working with a wonderful group of passionate educators, but I was ready to be home so I could prepare for the rest of the work I had lined up for the week. Between road construction, sudden downpours, and winding two-lane roads, the trip was taking longer than expected and I found myself growing frustrated and just wishing everyone would hurry up! I was reminded of God’s omniscience in that moment because the playlist I was listening to on Spotify shuffled to a fabulous song called This is the Stuff by Francesca Battistelli. In the song, she outlines a series of typical events that cause frustration, but then reminds the listener that this is the stuff God uses to slow us down so that we can remember our greater blessings. It was exactly the reminder I needed at that moment.

Jeremiah 17:7 reminds us,

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord.”

Reading it on this page it seems such a small, simple verse. Yet, how often do we stop in the moments of life’s messes to say, “Lord, I don’t understand Your why, but I trust in You and know this is all part of Your plan for me.” Sometimes it’s the simplest message that gets straight to our hearts and makes us take a necessary step back to slow down and give thanks.

Prayer: Lord, I don’t know what You have in store for me from week to week, day to day, or even from one hour to the next. I do know that You always have my best interest at heart. You planned my entire life’s journey before I was even born, so I will put my trust in You even amid daily frustrations to thank You for the lessons I must learn and the blessings You have provided. Amen.
