Martin Luther King, Jr. Ecumenical Service

January 14 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

As the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. approaches this month, we reflect on his courage and the manner in which he confronted the many challenges of the civil rights movement. Ultimately, we recall, he suffered and died for his beliefs. When he confronted those who dealt out injustice, he and his followers were stopped, jailed, sometimes beaten, ridiculed and threatened. They were accused of being “rabble-rousers,” Communists, disturbers of the peace and worse. Sadly, many people stood by and did nothing.

Dr. King reminded us, “In the end, we will not remember the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends.”

Let us learn from the past… when anyone is treated without respect, without fair play, without kindness, we must not remain mute. We should follow the suggestion of Dr. King:

“With our faith, we will transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.”

First Presbyterian Church is hosting an ecumenical service in our sanctuary in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Sunday, January 14 at 3:00 pm.  Pastor Lorenzo Small will be the featured speaker.
