12.4: “Come Let Us Adore Him”
Wednesday, December 4
“A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him.”
Isaiah 11:1-2a
This is a promise written hundreds of years before the coming of Jesus, of One who had come from the line of David, a shoot from the stump of Jesse (the father of King David), and that a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
Jesus was that branch! So, just think about the fruit that Jesus would bear… the fruit that would come from His life, His coming, and what we celebrate at Christmas! The fruit of sinners, saved by God’s grace from their sin. In addition, all that we see in scripture of the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and more.
Verse 2 continues, “… the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” How perfect that Jesus has the Spirit of God perfectly resting upon Him! The same Spirit that dwells in Jesus is the same Spirit that Jesus sent to dwell in us, who dwells in you and me. This is what we celebrate at Christmas! Not just that Jesus came, but that Jesus lives and His Spirit lives inside every one of us. We have so much to be thankful for.
Prayer:
Father God, thank you for coming to us, so many years ago. Thank you for living in Jesus, and through Him, in us. In everything that we do, may your Spirit lead, guide, and direct us. We pray that you would totally direct everything that we can say and do today, and that your Spirit’s power in us would help us be a witness, just as you promised Jesus. Thank you for your life in us today, in every way. AMEN
