The King of Glory… God with Us
Who is he, this King of glory? The Lord Almighty – he is the King of Glory.
Psalm 24:10
This short verse from Psalm 24 is easy to read quickly, say an amen in agreement and then move on with our day. There just doesn’t seem to be much there to inspire deeper reflection.
When we slow down, however, we notice a slight change in the word glory – the change from ‘glory’ to ‘Glory.’ This is a visual subtlety that may even be overlooked if we read too quickly, yet it changes the meaning of the word in a very powerful way. The use of the upper-case ‘G’ changes the common noun to a proper noun.
Suddenly the king in this passage is not someone who is revered for glorious acts, but rather as a tangible and long-awaited manifestation of God’s presence!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we move through this busy season of Advent, help us look for the subtleties that allow us to deepen our connection with You. Give us moments of quiet to be still and sense Your presence in our lives as the King of Glory.
Amen
