Introduction to Advent Devotional: “Come Let Us Adore Him”
The Discipleship Ministry team has prepared and will be sending daily devotionals for the season of Advent, through and including Epiphany. The daily devotions are written by members of our congregation and represent their interpretation of the scripture.
These devotionals are based on Part One of George Frideric Handel’s “the Messiah.” The music was written by Handel and the scripture was provided to him for the lyrics to the oratorio by Charles Jennens. Each Scripture denoted with an asterisk (*) is taken directly from the Messiah. Non-asterisked scripture and song lyrics supplement the daily devotional to complete the thirty-seven days of the Advent season. In keeping with Jennen’s use of the King James Version translation of 1611, the original scripture has been used. You may wish to view the scripture in a more modern translation, such as the New Living Translation, the Message, or the New International Version, as it may be easier to understand what is being said.
The Messiah is in three parts: Part one concerns Advent. Parts two and three relate to the season of Lent. The Discipleship Ministry Team strongly suggests that you take some time to listen to and enjoy Handel’s Messiah this season. You won’t be sorry!
