Jesus is the Light of the World
(The last Sunday before Lent is Transfiguration Sunday.)
Christians around the world celebrate Transfiguration Sunday, today Sunday February 19th. This scripture in Matthew is only part of the event on the mountain. You can read the entire gospel accounts of the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:1-13, Luke 9:28-36 and Mark 9:2-13
Matthew 17:1-3
Six days later, Jesus took Peter and the two brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain to be alone. As the men watched Jesus’ appearance was transformed so that his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared and began talking with Jesus.
2 Peter 1:16 and 19
“For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes. Because of that experience we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place–until the day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your heart.”
Revelation 22:16b
“I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne. I am the bright morning star.”
It is so amazing to follow scripture. For me, It has a way of tying together pieces from different authors of the Bible. This clarifies and validates the power of the Trinity.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we be transformed and follow your light. Our hope is that we will see you as the bright morning star when when we wake in your kingdom. Amen
