Weekly Devotional by Mary Maley
“My daily practice of spending time reflecting on God’s Word has been a wonderful stabilizing factor in this world where each day brings something different in dealing with the pandemic. I have chosen a guide that follows the lectionary and spends an entire week on one theme. Recently it was “Signs and Wonders” from Daniel 6:25-27a:
25 Then King Darius wrote to all peoples and nations of every language throughout the whole world: “May you have abundant prosperity! 26 I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people should tremble and fear before the God of Daniel:
For he is the living God,
enduring forever.
His kingdom shall never be destroyed,
and his dominion has no end.
27 He delivers and rescues,
he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth.” (NRSV)
During my daily walk outdoors, I would observe signs & wonders, often of birds & flowers, but also the chalkboard at a neighbors’ driveway with a quote that brings a smile, or people waving from their cars when I crossed the street. This has made me appreciate where I live.
Dear LORD, open our eyes to see and our ears to hear what extraordinary and astonishing actions you are taking right where we live. May we be conduits of your abundant life to all with whom we interact. Through our Redeemer, your Son, we pray. Amen.”
